Software Engineer for Embedded Systems

This position is responsible for firmware/software development on Digi products and Digi customer’s hardware, based on Embedded Linux.

Essential Functions and Accountabilities:

* Develop low-level system software for Digi Embedded Linux software distribution and custom software/firmware for Digi customer specific hardware.

* Port linux to the Digi NET+ARM processor family (as well as other processors, from different silicon manufacturers), carrying out: kernel integration/adaptation, driver development for multiple peripherals, integration inside Digi Embedded Linux distribution, etc.

* Participate in the design and implementation of the next generation of Development tools for our development kits.

* Develop applications in C/C++ and system level scripts.

* Work and develop bootloader firmware (mainly for U-Boot bootloader).

* Work in an international team environment with customers as well as other Digi employees.

* Depending on the assigned projects, have responsibility for the entire software development cycle from the specification to design, development, test, optimization and release.

Position Requirements:

* BSCS, BSCE, BSEE or equivalent, plus strong knowledge of the programming languages C, C++ (Assembler is a plus), bash, perl or python.

* Strong knowledge and experience with the Linux OS (or other Unix variants) at user level and developing system software for that environments.

* Knowledge of Makefiles.

* Experience with system software and driver development for embedded devices under OS such as Linux/ucLinux, RTOS, etc.

* Familiarity with low-level hardware programming/development techniques for microprocessors and embedded systems, ideally on ARM architecture.

* Knowledge of protocols such as Ethernet, TCP/IP, CAN or PROFInet.

* Ability to work effectively across multiple geographic locations.

* Team player with strong communication skills, and a results oriented approach.

* Fluently speak and write Spanish and technical English.
