The role: Legal Counsel - Madrid
As Legal Counsel working out of our Madrid office, you will be part of our growing team in EMEA. You're a qualified lawyer in Spain who comes with professional experience in commercial and intellectual property law either in-house or from an established law firm. Among your primary responsibilities will be to negotiate and draft a range of content licences and other commercial agreements and to provide legal advice in a wide range of legal matters, in particular copyright and database law. A deep understanding of Google's business and the challenges of licensing in data and content to support Google’s products are essential attributes for this job.
Responsibilities
* Draft and negotiate a wide variety of commercial agreements under local law, including content licenses in particular but also various advertising and partnership agreements.
* Advise management teams, EU and United States legal teams, Business Development, Advertising Sales and other business clients on legal matters.
* Respond promptly and reliably to internal and external requests for advice, specifically with regards to contracts, commercial regulations, IP, advertising, privacy and consumer protection under Spanish and European law.
* Advise members of the Google legal team and business colleagues on specific issues upon request.
* Co-ordinate and manage requests for multijurisdictional legal advice
Requirements
* Substantial professional experience in Spain either from a reputable law firm or in-house within a content / media / technology company.
* Proven background in advising on copyright and database issues, coupled with solid experience of drafting and negotiating commercial contracts.
* Deep understanding of online technologies and services, and a passion for technology, innovation, and the development of the internet.
* Expertise in content and data licensing.
* Excellent written and oral skills in Spanish and English (fluency in an additional language is a plus).
* Strong negotiation and interpersonal skills and a commitment to professionalism and collegiality.
* A willingness to travel and a sense of humour is essential!
